Renowned interior design studio Masquespacio, known for its crea-tive and vibrant approach, announces its latest project in Valencia: the design of the new showroom for the Valencian artisan ceramic company Maora. This collaboration marks a new chapter in the close relationship that unites Masquespacio and Maora for years, following a successful first experience in the development of an artisan ceramic collection.

Amparo, founder of Maora, together with her children, once again entrusted the vision of Ana Hernández and Christophe Penasse to bring to life a very special space: Maora’s showroom, located in a 60-square-meter ground floor in the heart of Valencia’s old town. The challenge was significant, given the historic nature of the build-ing constructed in 1800, which presented limitations in terms of height and natural light.

The guiding concept for this project is “Fragments of Tradition”. Masquespacio has conceived the showroom as a space where the layers of the building’s history are discovered and dialogue with the contemporaneity and inherent tradition of Maora’s artisan ceramics. Each tile, each texture, becomes a fragment of that legacy, reinter-preted under a current perspective.

The fundamental premise of the design was clear: Maora’s artisan ceramics had to be the absolute protagonist. Masquespacio re-sponded to this requirement with a total immersion in the Maora universe. The floor, covered with an unglazed terracotta ceramic piece combined with lines of glazed tiles, evokes the primordial earth on which tradition is based. The walls, covered with glazed pieces of different sizes, are presented as visual strata where the rich variety of Maora’s production is exhibited as a discovered treasure.

A unique architectural element of the premises, the inclination of the walls, is interpreted in this concept as traces of time, strata that reveal the building’s history. Masquespacio cleverly exploited this feature, integrating it into the design and adding a layer of originali-ty that underscores the idea of overlapping fragments.

The color palette, ranging from warm terracotta to the lightest beige, acts as a neutral and elegant backdrop, giving full prominence to the vibrant colors and finishes of the exposed ceramics, as if they were precious elements found in an excavation.

Ana Hernández, art director from Masquespacio: ‘The concept of ‘Fragments of Tradition’ arose from the very essence of the space and Maora’s ceramics. We wanted to create a dialogue between the palpable history of the building and the artisan tradition that Maora represents. Each ceramic piece becomes a fragment of that history, exhibited in a contemporary way that invites you to discover its in-trinsic value and beauty. The inclined walls were transformed into a symbol of the layers of time, where ceramics emerge as a precious find.’

Maora’s new showroom stands as a space where Valencian ceramic tradition meets a contemporary and historically respectful design vision, offering a unique experience for architects, designers, and craft enthusiasts, inviting them to discover the “Fragments of Tradi-tion” that compose it.
