Serentha Cabin is a retreat residence located in Valle de Guadalupe, Baja California, a territory known for its vineyards and arid landscape, where light, climate, and vegetation shape the conditions of living. The project is conceived as two sober, parallel volumes that frame a central courtyard. This open space becomes both the social heart of the house and its main bioclimatic strategy: mature olive trees, transplanted from the site itself, provide shade, freshness, and continuity with the original landscape, while the orientation of the volumes allows prevailing winds to circulate and daylight to enter in a controlled manner.

The program is resolved in a single 120 m² floor plan that organizes domestic life into different degrees of intimacy: one volume gathers the private spaces—two bedrooms and bathrooms—while the other concentrates the semi-private areas, such as the kitchen and the living-dining room. Between them, the central courtyard is understood as the public and collective space of the house, fostering encounters and a direct relationship with the landscape. Materiality responds to the environment with an austere and durable language: corrugated metal cladding protects against extreme climate; inside, polished concrete floors and painted drywall walls create a neutral backdrop balanced by the warmth of a wood veneer ceiling. The mixed structure combines steel frames with light-gauge galvanized framing, ensuring construction speed and precision.

The design incorporates principles of biophilic design: framed views toward the landscape, cross ventilation, the integration of vegetation in the courtyard, and fluid transitions between indoors and outdoors. These strategies generate an experience of both emotional and physical well-being, strengthening the relationship between user and natural environment.

Serentha Cabin was built with a small team of local builders, privileging accessible techniques and common materials, making its replicability possible in other rural contexts of northern Mexico. The result is a prototype for a contained, climate-sensitive dwelling deeply connected to nature—balancing resilience, intimacy, and a profound sense of belonging to place.
